Show love to the children’s kingdom

Plans are underway to redevelop and rehabilitate Kids Kingdom at Buford Park. This year’s leadership class has adopted the rehabilitation of Kids Kingdom, everyone’s favorite playground, as a class project. And, just like when it was built 25 years ago, everyone is welcome to help.

The leadership class has designated the weekend of April 22-24 as working days to recolor all of the wood in Kids Kingdom. It will be pressure washed by a professional before this weekend to prepare for coloring.

The class also plans to replace and/or repair equipment such as the handicapped swing, chains, swings, tires, etc. for the playground, restore soil mulch and install lighting for safety.

The class needs your help not only for the physical part of the restoration but also for the financial part. A cornhole tournament and silent auction are scheduled for March 26 at the Backstory Brewery. There are also sponsorship tiers for businesses/corporations that might want to pay for specific items for Kids Kingdom.

For cornhole registration or sponsorship, go to the chamber’s website at Where

There will also be a grand reopening burger lunch at Kids Kingdom in May when
the job is done.

Thanks in advance for helping show Kids Kingdom some love.

Patriot Sports Challenge

The 4th Annual Lake Fork Patriot Sports Challenge will take place the day after the Chamber Golf Tournament, so you can make it a full sports weekend.

The Patriot Sporting Challenge on April 9 is a special one-day event to benefit the families of military heroes with a morning shooting, golf and fishing competition and a celebration of patriotism. Each four-person team competes in two of the sports challenges (shooting, golf, and fishing), and they all meet that night at the Hopkins County Civic Center for dinner and a keynote address from keynote speaker Greg Stube, Green Beret. Then there will be a concert/dance by Cooper Wade and his band.

This evening’s patriotism support is open to the public for $600 for a table for eight. The evening includes casino games, reception, raffles and drawings and a catered dinner as well as the concert and dancing.

All proceeds from the event go to Folds of Honor, a non-profit organization providing scholarships to children and spouses of those killed or disabled in action.
