The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry is located on the Viikki campus. The faculty’s mission is to promote the sustainable use of renewable natural resources through scientific research and research-based education. We focus on agricultural and forestry sciences, food and nutrition, microbiology, as well as economics and management. We cover the whole chain of natural resources from farm to fork, the entire field of forest science from soil chemistry to marketing, as well as the environmental effects of related activities. The Department of Economics and Management conducts high-quality research and education, involving the application of economics, management, marketing and consumption theory, methods and perspectives to address issues associated with the goods and services of our terrestrial and aquatic environments: agricultural areas, food systems, forests and aquatic environments. The department has several international research groups. The department hosts the M.Sc. program “Agricultural, environmental and resource economics” and the M.Sc. program “Food economy and consumption (website in Finnish)” and the B.Sc. program “Environmental economics. and food ”. Areas of intervention of the position: We are interested in recruiting a researcher with solid expertise in teaching and supervising theses, particularly in marketing and / or management to support the implementation of the study plan of the bachelor’s program in environmental and food economics. An ability to relate these areas of expertise to sustainability issues, the food industry and / or the service sector is an asset. More specifically, the key areas are (in alphabetical order):

  • brand management and integrated marketing communication
  • business and industry analysis, profitability (marketing)
  • business planning and strategy
  • ethical marketing
  • international markets and marketing

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in working in interdisciplinary teams and with stakeholders from the private, public and third sectors.


According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, a person appointed to the post of university professor must hold an applicable doctorate and be able to provide high-quality research-based education and supervise theses and studies. briefs. When assessing the qualifications of applicants for the post of university professor, particular attention should be paid to scientific publications and other research results of academic value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, ability to produce learning materials, to other educational merits and, if necessary, to a teaching manifestation.

According to the university decree, university professors must be fluent in Finnish. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempt from this requirement without a separate application. Although the languages ​​of instruction are English and Finnish, applicants who do not know Finnish are warmly encouraged to apply. However, it is expected that the recruited person will acquire skills in Finnish to teach courses and perform administrative tasks within three years of being appointed. To successfully perform the duties of the position, the appointee must have excellent English skills.

The salary will be based on levels 5 to 7 of the table of levels of requirements for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will receive a salary component based on their personal performance at work. The gross monthly salary of the nominee will range from 3,400 euros to 5,000 euros, depending on their qualifications and experience. There is a six month trial period for the position.
