City of Vernon’s 2022 Tactical Marketing Plan to be presented to Council on Monday – Vernon News

Even with the ongoing pandemic, the past year has been a good year for Vernon tourism.

A staff report to be presented to Vernon City Council on Monday said that despite many challenges, visitation in Vernon exceeded expectations and returned to pre-pandemic visitation levels throughout 2021.

And the 2022 Tactical Marketing Plan aims to sustain and build momentum in several ways, such as expanding Tourism Vernon’s ability to inspire and capture target audiences through digital marketing is central to the tactics recommended for 2022.

A new full-time digital marketing coordinator and a new pending website underpin the tourism department’s focus on digital marketing and capturing tourists and visitors in new ways.

The city council will review the city’s tourism marketing plan on Monday.

Staff recommend Council support the 2022 Tactical Marketing Plan as recommended by the Tourism Commission.

In the fall of 2021, the administration began working with the Tourism Marketing Sub-Committee, a sub-committee of the Tourism Commission, on the development of Tourism Vernon’s 2022 Tactical Marketing Plan.

The committee was made up of representatives from Predator Ridge Resort, the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, the Rise Golf Club and the Vernon Winter Carnival Society.

The group provided insights on industry challenges related to the pandemic, new consumer travel behaviors and emerging target markets.

The Tourism Vernon 2022 Tactical Marketing Plan was created in accordance with input provided by the subcommittee, as well as the long-term goals and strategies outlined in the Tourism Vernon Strategic Business Plan 2018-22.

Improving the tourism approach to mobile visitor services program is also central to the 2O22 plan. Digital engagement tactics will be used to support more traditional forms of visitor service such as phone calls, emails and in-person interactions.

Examples include online chat, live social media updates from the Visitor Services team, and ongoing updates to the www.TourismVernon.ca events calendar.

The goal of the Mobile Visitor Services program is to meet visitors where they are with the information they need when they need it.

Summer and winter remain Vernon’s main tourist seasons. In order to extend the economic benefits into the shoulder seasons, Tourism Vernon will continue to target applicable markets with increasing activity in the spring and fall.
